FOUNTAIN HOUSE TO HOST ARTS IN MIND SERIES FINALE FEATURING ‘TRANSPARENT’ CREATOR JILL SOLOWAY
On Tuesday, October 6th, Fountain House will host the Arts in Mind series finale featuring a conversation between Joshua Wolf Shenk and Jill Soloway, creator and director of the show Transparent.
Arts in Mind explores the intersections of creativity and psychology through conversations with exceptional people. Founded in 2009, the series has included events with Andrew Solomon and Maria Bamford, among many others, often in conversation with psychologists and psychiatrists from the Austen Riggs Center, a founding sponsor. “When it comes to honest, daring, psychologically complex art, Jill Soloway is one of the leading creators of our time,” said Joshua Wolf Shenk, the director and curator of Arts in Mind. “She’s the perfect person to wrap the series with, and we both felt right making this event a fundraiser for Fountain House, which helps people with serious mental illness work, live, and create with dignity, and set the standard for the clubhouse model nationwide.”
Transparent won the 2015 Golden Globe for “Best Television Series- Musical or Comedy” and is available on Amazon Prime. It features a transgender father (played by Jeffery Tambor) living with his family in L.A. Transparent is based on Jill's personal experience and prompted TIME to name her one of “The 100 Most Influential People” in 2015.
Past Arts in Mind events have featured Josh Radnor on the psychology of acting, Jonathan Ames on the neurotic imagination, and memoirist Mary Karr on the relationship between trauma and memory.
“In addition to being a true friend of Fountain House, Joshua Wolf Shenk is a brilliant curator, essayist, and author,” said Fountain House President Kenneth Dudek. “We are excited to bring this timely dialogue to our community.”
The Arts in Mind series finale is sponsored by Amazon Prime.
