Opening Doors Reception
Fountain House will host our second reception in support of the Opening Doors campaign on Tuesday, September 28 at 6pm. The goal of the campaign is to build partnerships between Fountain House and the business community and create awareness about our employment program.
Supporters of our community are cordially invited to come or to invite friends of theirs who may be able to help us connect with potential employers. The reception is an opportunity to meet a current employer, members who have benefited from our employment program, and our Executive Director.
We hope attendees will be inspired to continue the conversation about bringing our Employment Program into their workplace and possibly even tell their friends about what we offer. If you’re interested in attending, please RSVP now.
Our Employment Program
Our work opportunity system is an integral part of the rehabilitation process for our members, but it also makes great business sense for employers. Participating employers are eligible for tax incentives, but even more compelling to most, is the training and absence coverage our staff provide. When one of our members starts a job, a staff member trains alongside him or her and fills in for free if the employee calls in sick or has to go to a doctor’s appointment. This assurance saves money in lost productivity, and allows our staff to train new members as they rotate through the jobs every six months.
Additionally, the support our staff provides for the members as they work is equivalent to an Employee Assistance Program and can ensure a successful experience for both employer and employee. Thus, while the national employment rate for people living with mental illness is 15%, the employment rate for Fountain House Members is 65%.
Our Corporate Partners currently include law firms such as Cravath, Swaine and Moore LLP and Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP and media giants such as Fox TV, HBO and Warner Music Group.
