On Wednesday, June 25th nearly 50 guests celebrated the one-year anniversary of Fountain House Bronx. Basking in the glow of a warm summer evening, members proudly showed off their hard work in transforming the space into a thriving working community, complete with a backyard vegetable garden.
Spirits were high with good reason. Within the past year, Fountain House Bronx has grown from eight active members to 135, and the warmth that has developed within the clubhouse is unmistakable. Additionally, ten members have found jobs, five have started school, and two have graduated.
Fountain House President Kenn Dudek pointed out the significance of the Bronx Clubhouse - the first-ever Fountain House expansion within New York City. He thanked the local community for making Fountain House feel welcome and needed. Michelle Rodriguez, Program Director, marveled at the increase in membership and praised members for demonstrating ownership and pride in their community. Lexis, a Bronx Clubhouse member, spoke movingly about how staff helped her escape homelessness and move into an apartment through Fountain House’s supported housing program.
Fountain House Bronx members and staff look forward to expanding opportunities for mental health recovery in their community and celebrating many more successful years with their friends and partners.
