Fountain House takes great pride in the warm, friendly atmosphere of its clubhouse on West 47th Street.
Often more meaningful to our members than jobs, school, and homes is the sense of community and belonging at Fountain House. Here, everyone knows each others' names.
I tell people coming to Fountain House for the first time that it is a world of blessing. They can’t begin to imagine the gift that is being given to them by becoming a member.

Just inside our green door on West 47th Street, we see to it that all members, staff and guests are greeted with a big, bright smile. It is important to understand that a smile and “Welcome to Fountain House!” are often the first experiences for some 400 members, staff and visitors each day.
For new members especially, this small act of kindness and respect is incredibly meaningful. They come from the shelter or the street or the psychiatric hospital feeling broken-down, hopeless, shy, and scared. This sense of community and a place in which to belong play an important role in lifting their spirits and helping them on the road to recovery.
At Fountain House, you are a real person and an equal partner, not a patient or a number. And we see it as an integral part of our mission to fulfill that promise everyday.
