New Fountain House Doc Wins Accolades

« back to In the News page

A new, feature-length documentary about Fountain House written, produced, filmed and edited by the members and staff of the Fountain House Audio-Visual Department won the 2004 Eli Lilly Helping Move Lives Foward Reintegration Award.

Staff member Zoe Hoeltzel and a member who led the project, were flown to Eli Lilly headquarters in Indianpolis to accept the $5,000 award for Best Artistic Contribution on behalf of Fountain House.

Opening the Door contains never-before-seen archival footage of Fountain House and chronicles the experiences, struggles and triumphs of 12 Fountain House members. But over 100 members are featured in this moving film about living with mental illness.

Since 1997, the Lilly Reintegration Awards have honored the contributions the mental health community has made to the welfare of individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The Helping Move Lives Forward Reintegration Awards program seeks to recognize and celebrate the achievements of people battling serious mental illness—and their treatment team partners who help them along the way—that can inspire others facing similar challenges.

For more information and an application for the 2005 award cycle, email the Lilly Reintegration Awards.

Email Fountain House to order copies of the film on DVD or video.
