Sotheby’s auction house in New York City, under the leadership and generosity of James G. Niven, hosted the first U.S. retrospective of photographer Francesco Scavullo’s work on April 4, 2006, to benefit Fountain House. The event featured a live auction of four vintage Scavullo photographs, donated by The Francesco Scavullo Foundation, and an exhibit of over 80 of his celebrity and fashion photographs sponsored by Lancome.

Co-Chairs Lil Phillips of Lehman Brothers Private Investment Management and fashion designer Katie Zorn comment on the significance of the event, “The partnership between the Scavullo Foundation and Fountain House is a logical one. Mr. Scavullo, who lived with bipolar disorder, is a shining example of what people with mental illness can achieve. His prolific body of work speaks to that. And Fountain House exists to help people with these illnesses everyday to reach their goals and dreams and reclaim their lives.”

In addition to celebrating the life and work of Mr. Scavullo through the words of his friends and colleagues – magazine editors Pamela Fiori (Town & Country), Helen Gurley Brown (International Cosmopolitan), and model Carmen dell’Orefice – the event introduced an audience of over 850 young professionals to the work of Fountain House. More than $50,000 was raised.

Scavullo portfolios and limited editions can be purchased from Scavullo Editions. 20% of online purchases will benefit Fountain House. Enter "FOUNTAIN HOUSE" in the additional comments field at check out.
