On October 20, 2006, Fountain House awarded 30 scholarships to members who are pursuing post-secondary education. Members, staff, Board members and supporters attended a special ceremony to recognize their achievements and to dedicate the new Sidney R. Baer, Jr. Education Center.

Fountain House Mourns Loss of Dear Friend Esther Montanez

Fountain House is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our friend, leader and colleague, Esther Montanez on Friday, May 5, 2006 at the age of seventy. She was the original fire and soul, and a legendary figure at Fountain House. She will be missed, but her legacy is very much alive.

Mental Illness Exacts Heavy Toll, Beginning in Youth

Researchers supported by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) have found that half of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14, and that despite effective treatments, there are long delays — sometimes decades — between first onset of symptoms and when people seek and receive treatment.
