Training

Introduction
Replication of the Fountain House model was a goal of the organization from its early stages. Colleague Training, first supported by a 1976 grant from the National Institute of Mental Health, was developed to meet this challenge.
Fountain House training has remained the same since its original design: members and staff in a three week hands-on immersion apprenticeship with the understanding that this is the only way to learn the full community experience.
Short Description of Training
Each colleague is assigned a unit on which to work during the day, and in the afternoon, the Colleague group convenes with the Fountain House training team for a daily afternoon discussion and reflection on the experience. In addition, colleagues in training visit another clubhouse in the metropolitan area, spend a weekend together at High Point Farm, attend a dinner and discussion with representatives from the Board, and develop an action plan for developing the practices learned at Fountain House in their home site.
Since 1977, over 2,000 people have come to Fountain House to learn how to establish a clubhouse.
