Member Profile: Meet Vaneis

VaneisVaneisMy name is Vaneis Adia Graham, and I have been a member of Fountain House since 2002. I spend most of my time in the Education Unit. From 1996 until 1999, I attended Howard University. I became mentally ill my junior year of college, and unfortunately was unable to complete my degree. I chose to postpone my education until I recovered. My recovery was slow, and Fountain House was very supportive of me.

A few years ago I was prescribed Clozaril, a medication that worked a miracle in my recovery. After that I was able to work two jobs through the Fountain House employment program. My first placement was at Broadridge Financial Solutions, working with a group of other members extracting proxies. I completed that job successfully and then moved on to work as a dispatcher in the messenger center at Publicis Groupe.

Now I feel prepared to pursue my college degree. This fall I will be attending Borough of Manhattan Community College, part of the CUNY system. My staff worker, Russell, has assisted me greatly in going back to school – helping me with the application process, financial aid, and a Fountain House scholarship.

Thanks to Fountain House and the Education Unit, I am ready for the fall!
