Jill Soloway and Joshua Wolf Shenk Discuss Arts in Mind

Posted on October 8, 2015 by Elizabeth Lion

On Thursday, October 6, nearly 80 guests, including several members of Fountain House’s LGBT group, gathered in the Wellness unit for the Arts in Mind series finale, featuring a conversation between Emmy Award-winning Director Jill Soloway and acclaimed author Joshua Wolf Shenk.  Fountain House Board member Anne Mai welcomed guests and presented Jill and Josh with beautiful artwork by Fountain House Gallery artists Keith Pavia and Laurel Burns.

During the conversation, Jill spoke about her sensational series Transparent, which is based on her own experience growing up with a transgender father.  She also talked about the importance of combating the stigma around marginalized groups like transgender people and people living with mental illness. Jill shared memories of her journey to find her creative voice and the courage it takes to express it.  The audience had numerous questions for Jill and some were eager to hear her impressions of Fountain House, which she and Josh toured before the program.

The event, which gave Fountain House the opportunity to welcome a new group of individuals into our community, was generously sponsored by Amazon Prime and Sheila Nevins.
