A newly formed running group made up of members and staff Fountain House teamed up with the Genesis Club in Worcester, Mass. for the 44th Annual Falmouth Road Race. Team Genesis of Genesis Club, a fellow training base for Clubhouse International, has participated in this race for 10 years. We were so excited to join them! As leaders in the global clubhouse movement, we strongly believe that our members, and people living with mental illness worldwide, can lead long, healthy, productive, and meaningful lives. Our clubhouses strive to provide this support through a working community of peers where our members motivate, inspire, and support one another every day. It was in this spirit that we joined Team Genesis in participating in this race: to inspire and motivate other clubhouse members to establish physical health goals and set up a plan for achieving them.
The Fountain House Running Club and Team Genesis
One member, Ryan Nevins had to say about his experience in Falmouth, “The seven mile course was beautiful with breathtaking views of the ocean from the peninsula as well as fans to cheer you along throughout the whole race. It was great to be of service to the Genesis Club and Fountain House and to spend some time with them and supportive workers like Joe and Jamel.”
The 44th Annual Falmouth Road Race
Participating in the 2016 Falmouth Road Race was our first step in establishing a Fountain House Running Club to encourage, inspire, and support members in understanding and appreciating the physical and mental benefits of this type of regular exercise. We plan to meet weekly for group runs and participate in several races in the NYC community- aligning with our organizational mission of community reintegration.
